"The Hunter Economic Zone will bring 26,000 new jobs to the area..."

.

Why the Hunter Valley?

The City of Cessnock offers a high quality lifestyle to its residents and can be seen as a place where the best of both worlds meet - people can enjoy a country way of life without traffic jams and the hustle and bustle that comes with city living, while still having direct access to facilities and services that make their lives easier and better.

Cessnock is a sub-region of the Hunter Valley, approximately 120 kilometres north of Sydney, 40 kilometres west of Newcastle and 30 kilometres from the coast. The population of the City (44,362 - 1996 Census) represents 8.2% of the total population of the Hunter Region. The majority of the population of the City is located in a thin urban belt between Cessnock and Kurri Kurri with the remainder located in outlying rural areas. Cessnock is the dominant town servicing the surrounding rural areas.

The Hunter is now one of the most successful economic and consistent performers in regional Australia. It is fast becoming Sydney’s expansion zone.

The Hunter has grown faster than the rest of Australia in the service sector – education, health, and tourism, and the region’s manufacturing has transformed itself, particularly in knowledge intensive areas.

Major industrial projects such as Tomago Aluminium, One Steel, Donhad and Comsteel, the Hunter Economic Zone, and the extension to the F3 have diversified the region’s industrial credentials.
